365 Project Days 7, 8, & 9!

Day 7 New Orleans CBD RooftopsDay 8 Disapproval
Day 9 Beignet

Well... I almost forgot to take a picture on Thursday night... and I'm finding that for the most part I'm still just snapping shots of something last minute. I would like for this project to get a little more thought than that though. Obviously some days I wont be able to photo safari out into the world to find something worth capturing, and so I'll be relegated to imaginative perspectives of things around my home or within my daily routine... but I'd really like to see my photography grow from this... and so far I don't feel like I'm making too much of an effort to think outside the box. Tomorrow I'm headed to the camera store to find a smaller case for my DSLR. Its unreasonable to carry around my Canon bag everyday, and there's just not enough room to stash it in the messenger bag I carry around with me all the time. I need something I'm comfortable taking with me everywhere. Something that will hold my camera body, one lens, and maybe an extra battery. If its not FREEZING tomorrow, I think I'll head to the quarter and see what there is to see!

365 Project - Days 5 & 6

Day 5 Blue Dog B&W

Day 6 Self Portrait

So this project is proving to be slightly more difficult than anticipated. Not because I'm already burnt out on taking photos, but mostly because I work all day and then there's only a short few hours in the evening to play. I think I'm going to have to start carrying around my camera almost all the time. It's typically dark by the time I make it home from work, and I'm quickly becoming bored of strolling around my house looking for interesting subject matter. So I guess I will have to just bite the bullet and be "that girl" who's never with out her camera. So far, my favorite photographs to capture are candids. I love the expressions people make when they don't know you're watching. So look out friends and loved ones... I'm coming for you :-)

365 Project - Day 4

My Neglected Running Shoes

Well, I was sick for most of today. I ate some bad mussels for dinner last night and they did a major number on me. I had plans to run today... and the weather, combined with getting over being sick, kept me from getting out there. So today's photo is of my neglected running shoes. Most of my friends know I'm a "barefoot" runner... and the funny little shoes I wear to exercise are a wonderful conversation piece. So here's to my running shoes (she says raising her gatorade)... Maybe tomorrow shoes. Sorry!

365 Project

Day 1 Party At My House

Day 2 Dog in the Dark
Day 3 Purple Sunshine
So I'm starting a little photography project called the 365 project. I read about it on one of the photography sites I visit frequently and I liked the idea because I thought it would sort of force me to take at least few minutes out of my day, every day, to take a photo of something. After reading a few of posts by other people who have participated in the project, it sounds like it will improve my photography too! And at the end of a year, I will have a pretty cool photo diary of my life. Now, I sometimes lack a little follow through on my creative endeavors... so I'll be counting on my friends to follow my project and encourage me to keep going! I'll try to post everything on my blog too :-) Plus I never just take ONE photo... so this will be a good spot to put a lot of my other photos! I posted days 1-3 above.

Assisting on my first shoot, YES please!

I recently had the pleasure of helping a photographer friend of mine on an engagement photo shoot. I didn't know quite what to expect, but it ended up being very educational and a lot of fun. As it turned out, I knew the couple (I'm actually a bridesmaid!), which made it a nice, relaxed environment for my first shoot, and I was able to assist both the photographer with her gear, and my favorite bride to be with her shoe choice and lip gloss application.
We started the shoot in beautiful Audubon park and ended by traipsing around the French Quarter getting shots as we came upon them. It was really a lot of fun, and I had a great time watching the photographer work. New Orleans is such an incredible backdrop for portraiture too. There are so many elegant twisting oak trees, historic places full of old world charm, and any number of random spontaneous street happenings that allowed us to capture some really unique moments. All in all it was a great experience and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my photographer friend will continue to invite me out to assist her.
I have to admit though... even though my more practical side is screaming inside my head about how difficult it would be to make a living as a photographer... I can't help thinking how much I would love love love to give it a go. The challenge of capturing a beautiful and creative shot just lights up my brain in ways I haven't felt in years... and I'm liking it.

I love to take pictures

I haven't had too many "passions" in my short 27 years of life, but I love to take pictures. I recently bought my first DSLR camera, and started to read anything I could get my hands on about photography. The more I learn, the more I am anxious to know... and I can't stop taking photos of everything and anyone in my path... And so I'm starting this little photog blog to track my progress and share my photos with my incredibly supportive friends and family members who have encouraged me to keep taking MORE PICTURES!
