I recently had the pleasure of helping a photographer friend of mine on an engagement photo shoot. I didn't know quite what to expect, but it ended up being very educational and a lot of fun. As it turned out, I knew the couple (I'm actually a bridesmaid!), which made it a nice, relaxed environment for my first shoot, and I was able to assist both the photographer with her gear, and my favorite bride to be with her shoe choice and lip gloss application.
We started the shoot in beautiful Audubon park and ended by traipsing around the French Quarter getting shots as we came upon them. It was really a lot of fun, and I had a great time watching the photographer work. New Orleans is such an incredible backdrop for portraiture too. There are so many elegant twisting oak trees, historic places full of old world charm, and any number of random spontaneous street happenings that allowed us to capture some really unique moments. All in all it was a great experience and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my photographer friend will continue to invite me out to assist her.
I have to admit though... even though my more practical side is screaming inside my head about how difficult it would be to make a living as a photographer... I can't help thinking how much I would love love love to give it a go. The challenge of capturing a beautiful and creative shot just lights up my brain in ways I haven't felt in years... and I'm liking it.
Do it.
